amouremma asked: Would you recommend me taking the SAT if I'm not ready?

    Answer:

    Check out this site: http://www.sparknotes.com/testprep/books/newsat/chapter11.rhtml
    it’ll be helpful!
Don’t take it if your not ready. If you take the october SAT you’ll receive your scores in time to send them out with your college applications that go out starting in november/december.if you do decide to take the june 2 sat, you can order your score report for 10$ I believe, that gives you a breakdown of your test results. - what type of queston ( sentence completions, grid-ins, etc.) You got wrong most often and what you always get correct. Make it a learning experience more than anything else. Taking the october sat means having the summer to study a bit without the added stress of school . -That’s when I took my first SAT.

amouremma asked: Hey, sorry for so much questions. But I just want to know how did you do so well on the SAT? Did you take prep? what books did you use? Because I keep getting sucky SAT scores. Thanks

    Answer:

The first time I took the SAT I self studied using Sparknotes’s the new SAT and PSAT review book. I received 1975 with it, my highest score. Its a little outdated but the tips it gives are seconds to none using the book my writing score (my lowest earning section during the practice exams I took) Improved by 100 points! I would suggest getting it. I bought mine on amazon for about 3 bucks.

The second and last time I took the SAT I used kaplan test prep. My score was 1870. This time around I only took the exam to raise my score in the critical reading section by 100 points720 - btw that’s something to keep I’m mind. Most schools ,BC included only look at your highest achieved score per section. so if you did really well in math lets say the second time around you can focus on the other section if you wanted.

Preforming well requires understanding the test. The way its structured, what questions to expect, what problems should be left blank. personally for me it took practice. My first step in preparation was taking 2 practice exams. analyzing what I got right and wrong enabled me to create a study plan to cater to my individual needs. Writing was my worst section so I got some vocab cards and during train rides id quiz myself. I read more and became critical of my writing’s sentence structure. That review book I mentioned was also very helpful in this area.

I wouldn’t suggest test prep unless you learn best from others. I personally don’t and found myself not paying attention in the classes. They’re really expensive so do some research to see if you’d benefit from it.

Btw of you tell me what section your struggling the most with, they’re some websites I can suggest!

P.S sorry for writing you an essay!
feel free to send me any more questions if I was a little unclear. Good luck next time around! :)
